The 11th Annual Alpena Blues Festival:
"Showcasing the IBC”
Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21, 2014
Who we are:
The Alpena Blues Coalition is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2003. We are committed to pursuing, preserving, and presenting music, The Blues in particular, in support of educational and charitable purposes.
What we seek to have our festival help us accomplish:
Keeping the Blues Alive
Helping Stamp Out Hunger With The Blues
Stimulate Interest in the Arts In Education
Our 2014 theme: “Showcasing the IBC”
At each of the past two Alpena Blues Festivals, many of the bands have competed in Regional IBC competitions. A number of them have also earned the honor of going on to compete in the IBC final rounds in Memphis. We have found that bands that excel in the 5 judging categories of the IBC have just what we are looking for to produce an entertaining, high energy show at our Festival: Instrumental Skills, Vocal Skills, Blues Content, Stage Presence and Originality.
In 2014, we will again feature IBC competitors, including some that you may never have seen before. We will also be bringing back a couple of crowd favorites from the last two years. We have a fantastic, high energy show coming to Alpena on June 20 and 21, 2014.
Plan NOW to be at the 11th Annual Alpena Blues Festival to experience our “Showcase of the IBC”...we think it's the next best place to be for some High Energy, Award Winning Blues if you can't get to the IBC in Memphis!
About the IBC
The Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge (IBC) is an annual competition that begins on a regional level. There are three basic Blues performance categories: Bands, Solo/Duo, and Youth Showcases. Competing artists are judged and scored in 5 categories: Instrumental Skills, Vocal Skills, Blues Content, Stage Presence and Originality. The regional competitions take place in late Summer and on into the Fall and are conducted by The Blues Foundation’s affiliated organizations around the world. The winners of these regional competitions then head to Memphis for the finals, which take place in late January or Early February. At the finals, over 200 bands compete for cash, prizes, and the chance to change the destiny of their careers. There are three rounds of competition in numerous locations on Beale Street in Memphis, with bands with the best scores advancing: first the quarter-finals, then the semi-finals, and for the ones judged to be the very best, The Finals.
